About Kristen
Hi, thank you for your interest in my artwork. My name is Kristen Steindl and I am an abstract artist – born, raised and residing in southern New Jersey; only 10 minutes from the beach. The influences for my paintings are the beach, ocean, sea and waves. I utilize vibrant colors and aesthetic shapes to represent the constant movement of the ocean to create my unique art.
I love going to the beach because I can experience beauty, inspiration, tranquility, the four elements and the five senses all-in-one place. The four elements are: air, earth, fire and water. The five senses are: hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch. The atmosphere of the beach makes me feel at peace, even though I am cognizant the ocean is unpredictable and must be treated with respect. It is that dichotomy that inspires and intrigues me. I want my paintings to convey the contrast between relaxing scenery and the magnitude of the sea.
Catching Unbroken Waves
Catching Unbroken Waves is a surfing phrase that describes positioning when selecting the perfect wave. I am not a surfer but this term is relatable to me and how I paint. Surfers are constantly chasing these waves because they have the precise amount of power / strength and gravity / steepness. They are only able to ride these waves by matching the speed of the wave and lots of practice. When the surfer is able to "catch the wave", it's an unforgettable, memorable experience.
My interpretation of Catching Unbroken Waves is to acknowledge and embrace a new opportunity, whenever it is presented. The waveforms I create have been altered and reinvented through my painting successes and failures over 28+ years. One of my most important life lessons is to try, make adjustments, take a new direction and be open to that result. This process has been so beneficial to me to become more confident as an artist.
My appreciation, experiences and understanding of the ocean is Catching Unbroken Waves.
